Vertical Horizon Guiding

We had an amazing time on the guided cave tour with Shy! She was so much fun and a great guide. She made the experience flow so well with extensive knowledge about the the geology, caves, and the area. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to try something new and is maybe a bit nervous to go out of their comfort zone. Shy was awesome at making everyone feel comfortable and safe when coaching people through their new experiences.

I recently took a multipitch course with Shy Weeks at Vertical Horizon Guiding and was blown away by her organization, ability to communicate and teach complex skills, and to create the opportunities to “fail” safely so we could learn from our mistakes. She followed up the practical, on-the-rock course with an impeccably designed reference manual to review all the material from the day. I have been multipitching for years but one day in the mountains with Shy taught me how to do things more safely, more efficiently, and how to confidently navigate the “oh s*!t” situations that inevitably arise. I booked a private lesson with Vertical Horizons Guiding last weekend. I was keen to climb Yamnuska to celebrate my birthday. It was a fantastic day out. Shy took me up Gollum Grooves on the east end. It’s a 3 pitch, 110m, 5.7 climb. It was challenging for me in places but Shy gave me some good tips and was patient, and we successfully made it to the top. Woohoo! I would definitely recommend Shy as climbing guide.

What an incredible company! Was so excited to learn about this female owned outdoor company! I have now known the Owner Shy for several years now and not only is she an ethical, strong and engaging instructor she has as wonderful creative side as well. Would definitely recommend this company and trust my life with her!
